Selene Wendt

c726b588-9cfa-4e6e-ae21-d182f887354aSelene Wendt is an independent curator and founder of The Global Art Project, which was established to promote contemporary art across geographic borders, with particular focus on artists from Latin America, the Caribbean and Africa. She has curated many exhibitions including Shirin Neshat Beyond Orientalism; Ghada Amer Reading Between the Threads; Liza Lou Leaves of Glass, Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons Mil Maneras Para Decir Adios, Art Through the Eye of the Needle, which addressed the breakdown of barriers between art and fashion; A Doll’s House, which included artists whose works are influenced by doll symbolism; Equatorial Rhythms, which featured visual artists from countries with strong music traditions whose works are influenced by music; Beauty and Pleasure in South African Contemporary Art, The Storytellers: Narratives in International Contemporary Art; Mind the Map;  and Jamaican Routes, each accompanied by a catalogue with essays. She writes regularly for international publications and has written and edited books such as Crispin Gurholt Live Photo II (Skira); When a Painting Moves…Something Must be Rotten! co-edited with Paco Barragán (Charta), and  Fresh Paint (Charta). She is currently working on Rebel Riddim: Jamaican Music in Contemporary Art, an exhibition that features artwork that relates specifically to reggae and dancehall.♦
